Counterfeit goods range in quality, with some very easy to spot. However, many counterfeit goods at first glance look the same as the original to an untrained eye.
This can be an issue for a company’s supply chain, at the customs border control and the final consumer, causing untold damage to a company’s brand and reputation. There are many stories of fake goods entering into legitimate channels to market with counterfeit medicines supplied in good faith and substandard spares fitted to cars with deadly consequences.
In order to combat the problem of telling the difference between a real or fake product various technologies have been developed to make the task of product authentication easier.
These technologies are generally broken down into two categories covert and overt.
Covert Product Authentication
Covert technologies are incorporated into the product or packaging for authentication and cannot be seen without specialist knowledge/equipment. Please click here for our covert solutions.
Overt Product Authentication
Overt technologies are also incorporated into products or packaging for authentication but do not require specialist knowledge or equipment to be seen. Please click here for our overt solutions.
In some industries a combination of both covert and overt technologies are used.
